Shermz West Coast Tour Stop 1: Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is rad. The surf is sick; the hills are thick with redwood trees; rent is affordable; there is an artsy hippy scene; the surf is sick (did I mention that?).

Unfortunately, my arrival did not correspond with epic surf. 3-4' was the best it got, and it was inconsistent. A point break in Capitola, near Pleasure Point, provided fun rights, a kelp bed kept it glassy all day, and paleontologists unearthed a 5 million year old whale head on shore.

Eric Fitz was my gracious host, and no doubt he will reap the surf benefits of his location in Capitola, Santa Cruz's neighbor to the South. The first night we got twisted, sampling 2 Buck Chuck at an art show with a rubber chicken theme. We hit the local skatepark and Eric got wikky wikky. Much thanks to Eric and his roomies for providing a nice couch, a hot tub, and vedgy-vedgy soup. Tomorrow, I head north to the cold waters of Eureka. Not sure if I will surf...we shall see
