Backcountry Adventures

On Monday the Sherm and I made our first trek into the backcountry o Jackson Hole. Our route, guided by fellow chef and New Hampshire native Jon Molofsky, led us up the Glory Bowl boot-pack from the top of Teton Pass. The morning temperature was a balmy 0ยบ F, with wind chills in the negatives as we hiked up. The snow-pack was stable and the avalanche danger was low, within an hour of varying steepness, we trucked to the top of Glory, stopping to take a few photos and to catch our breath. We crawled into a shack at the summit to get out of the wind and regroup before heading out. We headed South-West towards Snowshoe Bowl, stopping along the way for Jon to point out landmarks, other routes and danger zones for future visits. Our run landed us as at Cold Creek, giving us a 2,000 ft. run and dropping us near the Idaho boarder. Despite having pristine views of newly discovered terrain, it was too damn cold to take pictures, ask Sherman. The ones above will have to suffice.

-I did go up again the next day, to slightly warmer and much sunnier conditions with another friend and long-time Jackson resident, Jason Irvine (Jumping off the rock). We took a different route on the North Ridge, which boarders Glory Slide and Little Tuckerman’s(3rd photo).

Come on out, the Snow is great.
-Schelling
